Ngurra Warriors is a group of people that came about to assist young people in getting back their identity, to find again their pride in their culture, their strength in their spirit, and their sense of belonging in a community. With the mentoring and leadership of Nathan Lovett-Murray, the program gets the discipline involved in sport, the depth of culture, and the result is a bridge connecting traditional values with the modern way of growth.
Under the umbrella of Sports Health Check Charity, Ngurra Warriors combines structured training, mentorship, and the cultural education through which leadership and resilience are nurtured. The word respect always opens the door to every program: respect for elders, for Country, and for each other, thus making sure that every move is a salute to culture and every lesson at the service of community.
A fighting skills and self-defence program for people of all cultures who value pride in their heritage, strength in themselves and respect for others.
Ngurra is a word found in several Aboriginal languages, with meanings including home, Country, camp and a place of belonging. It expresses the connection between people, place and community.
Born from a respect for Australia’s First Nations cultures and their enduring connection to Country, Ngurra welcomes people from all cultural backgrounds, including those beginning a new life in Australia.
Through martial arts, practical self-defence and shared learning, participants develop confidence, discipline and physical skills while building friendships across cultures. It is a place to celebrate your heritage, respect the cultures of this land and build strength together.
To create cross-cultural pride for the youth of Australia through community support and environment care.
Ngurra Warriors initiatives are defined by principles that ensure each of their moves is done with respect and permission:
Ngurra Warriors is the responsibility of Sports Health Check Ltd, a charitable organisation registered with full Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. This provides for the requisite openness, answerability, and the correct usage of the donated money of the strengthening of the Indigenous communities.
The Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters of Australia are recognised by us and we honour elders past, present, and emerging. Changes to the community and language groups are all disclosed with permission, thus making sure that Ngurra Warriors shows cultural integrity and great respect for Country while walking.
